Another Way to Treat Astigmatism

November 8, 2018 | Uncategorized

As a reminder, let’s briefly review what astigmatism is. Astigmatism is just another type of refractive error (like nearsightedness or farsightedness). It typically means the cornea, the clear front window on the front of the eye, is irregularly shaped. This irregular shape focuses light on two places rather than one causing blurry vision. Some may say you can think of it as your cornea being shaped liked a football, meaning that one side is steeper than the other, instead of being shaped round like a basketball.

We wrote previously about the common misconception that people with astigmatism are not a candidate for laser vision correction. Although this may have been true in the past, it is usually not the case today. The main reason for that is the advancing technology of our lasers. So what if you have astigmatism, come for a consultation, and find out that you’re still not a candidate for laser vision correct despite the newest technology available? Are you out of options? Fortunately, the answer is no! There are wonderful alternatives to laser vision correction, and most now treat astigmatism too!

One of those popular options is called an ICL, which stands for the implantable collamer lens, and we now have ICLs that treat astigmatism. The medical term for these advanced astigmatism treating lenses is “toric” ICLs. It’s basically a contact lens that goes inside of your eye instead of sitting on the surface of your eye. Patients love this option because it alleviates all the hassle of constantly messing with contacts, is reversible, typically provides a much better quality of vision than glasses or contacts could! Not only that but this option can treat people with extremely high near-sighted prescriptions – as high as -20D! Whether it be a toric ICL, ICL, LASIK, or some other type of vision correcting procedure, come in and see us so we can help you achieve a life without limits!

“I just wish I had done it sooner!”

The number one thing we hear from our patients is that they wish they would have had vision correction sooner.

So the question for you is… why wait any longer?
